It’s time for a contest on your blog. I know it, you know it, and it’s finally time to think about how to bring the contest to life. Now, a lot of bloggers will tell you to just go for, but the thing is that a good contest takes planning and skill. You don’t want to rush in and then have to backpedal as certain details just don’t come together. This is why a lot of people fall out of love with contests on blogs, but you have to think about the benefits that are waiting for you.
Benefits? Of course there are benefits to running a contest on your site. Did you really think I would give out blogging tips that wouldn’t help you gain something in the long run? The truth is that you get a lot of exposure with a blog contest, but you will still need to have good contest and good structure to keep interest in your blog. I’m not going to tell you that you will naturally be able to keep every last person that shows interest in your blog due to the contest. However, if your blog has good content, then you really might be able to keep a lot more people than you might think.
It all starts like this: you need to come up with an idea. You want to think about something to give away that matches your subject matter and you will need to build a contest that people are going to actually want to participate in. What type of things are the people in your audience interested in? Build those points into your blogging contest.
I will leave you with this: the more time that you spend thinking about your idea for the contest, the higher quality contest you will create. It just makes sense: if you rush to cobble something together, it will fall apart. If you build your contest “house” out of good materials, there’s really no way that you can’t win!
