How to Find .edu and .gov Blogs for Backlinks

July 12, 2011

Many SEO experts believe that backlinks from .edu and .gov are more powerful than backlinks from other domain extensions. Google loves these domain extensions since they publish high quality content with no (or less?) commercial purposes. Domains with .edu extension can only be purchased by legal educational institutions and the .gov domains are specially made for government and its institutions. To buy these domains you will need to send a request to Educause that you can do it here. There are some requirements needed for legality checking.

Are you still curious about buying .edu and .gov domains? My advice is: forget it!

We are talking about how to get powerful backlinks for our blogs and nothing to do with buying domains. You don’t have to struggle so hard to buy domains with these extensions when you know that you are not eligible. Just focus on how to take advantage from these domains.

You need to write relevant comments on .edu and .gov blogs to get backlinks from them. Please remember to read the whole article carefully before adding a comment. I strongly recommend you not to use any comment automation softwares out there that would only bring your comments to spam folder and get your IP address listed as spammer. Take your time and have fun doing it manually. You need to do it right since most of these blogs use comment moderation.

Now you need to find .edu and .gov blogs or forums which have the same niche with your blog or at least have articles related to your niche. You can search on Google by using these forms:

To find .edu blogs:

“(Your keyword here)” “powered by wordpress” site:.edu

To find .edu forums:

“(Your keyword here)” “powered by vBulletin” site:.edu

To find more forums, you can change the word ‘vBulletin’ with other platforms that mostly used by forums such as PHPbb or Xoops.

You can use the same search method for .gov blogs and forums. Simply change the extension:

“(Your keyword here)” “powered by wordpress” site:.gov

“(Your keyword here)” “powered by vBulletin” site:.gov

Once you find blog or forum that match your niche, then you can start writing your comment and add your URL in the website information box. Please remember to write a relevant and thoughtful comment. Because when you write spammy look comments like “Thanks for sharing!” or “Nice info. Keep up the good work!”, you have small chance to get your comment approved. So, don’t waste your time with those kind of comments.
