Your blog is a business. There, I finally said it. After looking over emails and comments from some of you, I figured it was time to actually become clear on this point. You should already be looking at your blog as a business, and edging more and more into a business mindset. You will need to really think about the type of business that you want to run.
Do you want to run a business where you have to watch over it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or do you want to run a business where you’re truly an owner?
This is just food for thought — not all blogging tips are direct, and some of the things I will discuss with all of you are meant to be things that you can take and expand upon.
Now, I’ll be honest. This blog is a labor of love, and I run it myself. However, that’s just one path that you can take. You could obviously have a much larger blog if you had actual contributors that were writing posts alongside you.
The math is obvious. If you can produce 5 posts a week, so can someone else. If you had a team of 4 people, including yourself, writing posts for the authority site you create, you could produce a massive amount of content. Your readers would basically have 20 posts a week to look over, comment, and share with their friends. The number of views that your overall site would receive is far higher, because there is more to see. Google and the other search engines will begin to see you more and more as an authority, which is always a good thing.
So, is this the path that you should take? Well, not quite. Managing a team can be something that’s pretty tough, and you might not want to actually go down this route. I’ve seen some very well run group blogs, and some other group blogs that definitely have management problems. If you don’t have a clear plan on how to take your group blog to the next level, you won’t succeed at all.
At the end of the day, you have to work within your own style, your own limits, and towards your own goals. For now, the rest is up to you! What path will you choose?
