When you “niche market” you are marketing to a subgroup pf people with a specific need. This need may be for a product, service or information. Essentially niche marketing is a subgroup of internt marketing. To succeed in internet marketing you need motivation. No business is work free but with internet marketing it doesn’t take lots of money to get started which was good since I didn’t have lots of money!
I decided to try internet marketing which I knew nothing about at the time because it did not require a great deal of money to get started. I knew I would have a learning curve. What I didn’t know is how very many marketers out there were counting on my desperation to leave a job I didn’t like to sell their “make money online” products. I’ve said often on my blog the BizBuzz, “It seems to me the people making the most money in internet marketing are the people trying to sell you products teaching you to make money online” I say this just to emphasize the internet’s a little like the wild west, untamed and not very regulated so “buyer beware.”
I learned most of what I know from Niche Profit Classroom. Another good source of information is Wealthy Affiliate. I have no regrets regarding the money I’ve speant at these places, unlike some others. I’m sure there are other programs out there that give you vlaue for your money but these are the ones I have used.
Essentially you can make money online selling physical products such as clothing, digital downloads like books and mp3’s, lead generation in which you develop a “list” and market or sell to that list and affiliate marketing in which you sell someone else’s product and get a commission. This last one would include creating “content sites” on which Google Ad sense puts ads and gives you a commission on the click through on their ads. All of these methods can and do make people lots of money online. None of them are totally free and all require work.
The internet has a few unique advantages when it come to building a business. The start up cost is low, the earning potential is high, and internet marketing is a step by step process that once learned can be repeated until you have the income you want. So why does it seem so hard and why do so many people fail? Basically they don’t know what they are really doing and/or have unrealistic exspectations. If you are willing to work and have a little money to invest you can build an online business.
The essential formula I use is to find a niche I think will be non-competitive and lucrative. I mainly use Google Adsense keyword tool to do my research. I look for keyword with at least 500 searches and less than 10 to 20 thousand quoted search results in Google. These niches have enough searches to indicate a market and are low enough in competition to allow me to build a site that will rank on Google’s first or second page. Once I’ve ranked on Google I can begin to make money selling my product, building a list, or just on Ad sense click through.
I started out looking at building a digital camera site. Digital camera was too broad a keyword with too much competition. Eventually I found the keyword “canon eos vs nikon.” I built a site using this keyword and got my backlinks in place. Eventually I ranked for the keyword and this site is getting traffic and making money. If I had everthing to do all over again I’d start out with a good site like NPC and learn the process instead of trying to learn myself by jumping all over the internet. I wasted valuable time and energy. So this is a very short explanation of niche marketing.
